Description

My name is Éva, and I’m 45 years old. My partner, Géza, is 51, and we have four children: two daughters, aged 18 and 17, and two sons, aged 15 and 10. Our 18-year-old daughter has since moved out and is living with her partner.

Our 17-year-old daughter has an intellectual disability, so it is particularly important to us that she has a familiar, safe environment and that our family can stay together.

Unfortunately, the past few months have been extremely difficult for us. I am currently battling cancer for the third time, so I am unable to work due to my condition. My partner works in the construction industry, carrying out plasterboard work, amongst other things, and does everything he can to support our family.

We have been living in a charity-owned flat in the 13th district for 13 years. Unfortunately, the charity has sold the flat, and the new owner wants us to move out. We have applied for a flat in the 13th district on several occasions, but unfortunately none of our applications have been successful.

In the meantime, our situation has become very difficult. The new owner has taken legal action to force us to move out, and we have also been in contact with the child welfare centre and the guardianship authority. The hearing with the guardianship authority was very upsetting for us, because we are afraid that if we cannot find suitable accommodation, our children might be taken into care.

We want to avoid this at all costs.

We do not want to go to a family hostel, as we feel that a home of our own – one that is peaceful and safe – would be the best solution for our children. We would like them to be able to continue living in their familiar surroundings, go to school, and for our family to stay together.

In the meantime, we’re doing everything we can. We’ve submitted our application to the Budapest Housing Department and have also registered with the Budapest Housing Agency, but we’re still waiting for the results.

For us, renting a flat would be the quickest and safest solution right now.

However, the biggest obstacle is the deposit required to move in. For most rental properties, we have to pay a deposit of 2–3 months’ rent plus the first month’s rent, which we are unable to afford in our current financial situation.

That is why we are now turning to you, the public, for help.

All we want is a safe home where our children can continue to live with us, go to school, and where we can carry on with our lives in peace.

It was very difficult for us to ask for help, but we can no longer resolve this situation on our own.

If you can contribute even a small amount to our fundraising campaign, it will be a huge help to us. And if you’re unable to support us financially, it means a great deal simply to share our campaign so that it reaches as many people as possible.

Every single contribution brings us one step closer to having a place we can call home again.

We want to know our children are safe, to stay together, and to finally find some peace of mind.

A huge thank you to everyone who is helping us in any way. ❤️

Thank you for reading our story and for standing by us during this difficult time.

Éva and Géza
