Urgent assistance needed for 13-year-old Adam's fights DMD
Description
Help for Adam Iwanejko.
Adam Iwanejko is 13 years old and fights a dramatic battle for his life every single day. He suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy — one of the most severe and fastest-progressing neuromuscular diseases in children. Without treatment, this disease irreversibly takes away strength, mobility, and independence.
The only real chance to stop the progression of the disease is gene therapy available exclusively in the United States. The cost is 4.3 million USD — an amount absolutely impossible for one family to raise alone. Time is merciless. Every single day without treatment means irreversible loss of muscle strength.
What is most heartbreaking is that Adam is not waiting passively for help.
This 13-year-old boy has joined the fight to save his own life.
Adam actively helps produce pillows for the fundraising campaign “Buy a Pillow for Adam.” He packs the pillows, seals the boxes, and attaches thank-you notes. He does this despite the progressing weakness in his arms and legs, despite pain and extreme fatigue. Every movement costs him more and more effort, yet he does not stop.
Because he knows his future is at stake.
Every day, Adam checks the fundraising website himself. He looks at the progress bar and hopes that help will arrive in time. His determination, maturity, and awareness of his situation are heartbreaking. This is a child who, instead of enjoying a carefree childhood, carries the heavy burden of fighting for his life.
This fundraiser is critically urgent.
