Description
This year, the second session of the Synod on Synodality will take place in Rome. During the global consultations involving all countries and continents, calls were heard for women’s equality, the diaconate for women, and greater recognition of women’s vocations and ministry within the Church. However, this year’s working document sets aside the issue of the diaconate, speaks of equality in general terms and does not announce anything concrete. We know that patriarchy (including within the Church) is too strong to let go without a fight. That is why women’s Catholic organisations are planning a series of events, demonstrations and actions in Rome during the Synod in October. We will remind everyone that women make up more than half of the Church and cannot be discriminated against; we will not accept this.
As the TEKLA association, which empowers women, young women and girls within the Church, we’ll be there too! We’d like to be able to invite other Catholic women from Poland to these events, covering part of the travel costs. We’re going to make a racket, shout our heads off, take action and demonstrate. We need a bigger team to ensure these actions are visible. Besides, at TEKLA we know how much joy, motivation and strength for further feminist struggles within the Church these international meetings provide.
Do you want women’s equality in the Church to be a hot topic at the synod in October? Support our trip!
P.S. We are an association founded by Polish Catholic women, registered in Belgium (as some of us live here) and working to empower women, girls and young girls within the Church (particularly in the Polish context and in Polish).
