Description

Sport isn’t just about competition; it’s about excitement, sharing and freedom. But what happens when someone, due to physical barriers, cannot experience it to the full? This is precisely why the Marika Project was launched – an initiative that aims to break down those barriers and make running accessible to everyone, without exception.

It all began in October 2024, when Marika, a 27-year-old woman with spastic dystonic tetraparesis, turned up at the starting line of a running race. Blonde hair, big eyes and a winning smile. But there was a problem: her wheelchair wasn’t suited to that kind of course. Despite cramps and difficulties, Marika didn’t give up. She fought on, she smiled, she gritted her teeth all the way to the finish line. And then, with disarming simplicity, she said: “I’m sorry, I wish I could have done more.”

Those words struck a chord with the person who had accompanied her on that challenge, Angela G.. It wasn’t she who needed to do more, but those who could help her experience the race in the right way. And so the Marika Project was born , based on an idea by Angela: to raise funds to purchase a special wheelchair for athletes with disabilities, so that anyone who wants to experience the joy of running can do so, without obstacles.

But there’s more. When she was offered the chance to buy a wheelchair for herself, Marika replied: “I’ve already had that opportunity. I want this wheelchair to be for everyone who hasn’t yet been able to experience it.” A powerful message that transforms this project into something even greater: a symbol of inclusion and equal opportunities.

Now it’s up to all of us to do our bit. A small contribution is all it takes to give this dream a big boost. Every donation is another step towards a goal that knows no barriers.
