On 30 December 2024, an ambulance set off from the County Emergency Hospital in Pitești bound for the University Emergency Hospital in Bucharest. In the ambulance was Ilina Pârvu, a 35-year-old woman from the village of Florieni in Argeș, a mother of five and seven months pregnant, who was in a critical condition with bronchopneumonia.

Upon arrival at the hospital, she was intubated and taken into the operating theatre for an emergency caesarean section. The baby – a girl, Ioana-Ilina – was saved. However, on 4 January 2025, the mother – weakened by illness and the surgery – passed away. The doctors were unable to resuscitate her for a third time.

Cosmin Pârvu, Ilina’s husband, was left alone with their six children and a mountain of worries and projects that the couple had shouldered together, working from dawn till dusk:

Raising and educating the little ones.

Cleaning and cooking.

Extending the house with a new room for the children.

The new well, because the old one had run dry and the village isn’t connected to the mains water supply.

(Florieni, the isolated hamlet on one side of the Transfăgărășan, has a population of 45, mostly elderly. The Pârvu family moved here in 2018 to support the locals and keep the local traditions alive. Cosmin is a deacon and Ilina was a lighting engineer at the theatre).

We believe that this burden can only be borne together, by the whole community, if kind-hearted people like you offer the Pârvu family a monthly, recurring donation, however small.

Priorities:

As mentioned above, the priorities are: 

- the long-term employment of a hard-working and trustworthy person to help Cosmin on a daily basis with running the household (cleaning, cooking, looking after the children);

- building an extension between the two existing small buildings to ensure thermal comfort and expand the living space for the children;

- drilling a borehole to provide running water. The existing well has dried up due to the droughts of recent years, and the hamlet where they live is not connected to the public water supply;

- covering the costs necessary for the children’s education and harmonious development.

Who are we, the organisers of this fundraiser?

We are friends of Ilina and Cosmin-Constantin. We have known them for years (some of us for as long as 15 years). We live in the same area and our children often play together. We are close to the Pârvu family; we know their needs and try to form a protective shield around them. That is why we are asking for your help, as quickly and consistently as possible. By making a small monthly donation, we prevent this story from being forgotten; we ensure that even if dust settles on this story, it does not settle on a wonderful family.
