On 30 December 2024, an ambulance was leaving from the County Emergency Hospital in Pitesti to the University Emergency Hospital in Bucharest. In the ambulance was Ilina Pârvu, a 35-year-old woman from the village of Florieni - Argeș, mother of 5 children and seven months pregnant, in a critical condition with bronchopneumonia.

On arrival at the hospital, she was intubated and entered the operating theatre for an emergency caesarean section. The baby - a girl, Ioana-Ilina - was saved. But on 4 January 2025, the mother - weakened by the disease and the surgery - gave up. The doctors failed to resuscitate her for the third time.

Cosmin Pârvu, Ilina's husband, was left alone with their six children and a caseload of worries and projects that the couple had shouldered together, working from morning till night:

Raising and educating the little ones.

Cleaning and cooking.

Expanding the house with a new room for the children.

The new well, because the old well has dried up and the village is not connected to water.

(Florieni, the isolated village on one side of the Transfăgărășan, has a population of 45, mostly elderly. The Pârvu family moved here in 2018 to support the locals and keep local traditions alive. Cosmin is a deacon and Ilina was a theatre lighting engineer).

We believe that this burden can only be carried together, by the whole community, if people like you, with kind hearts, give the Pârvu family a monthly, recurring donation, however small.

Basically, it's a subscription to the hard-pressed family's rescue, whereby a sum of money is sent directly to them once a month. You decide the amount and the duration of the 'subscription' (and you can change it whenever you want). It's a completely secure transaction via PayU - just like letting them take money off your card every month for your phone bill or TV subscription. Priorities:

As written above, the priorities are:

- The long-term employment of a hard-working and reliable person to help Cosmin on a daily basis with the upkeep of the household (cleaning, eating, looking after the children);

- erecting a building between the two existing small buildings to provide thermal comfort and extend the living space for the children;

- digging a borehole to provide running water. The existing well has dried up due to the drought of recent years and the hamlet where I live is not connected to the public water network;

- to cover the necessary expenses for the children's education and harmonious development.

Who are we, the fundraising organisers?

We are friends of Ilina and Cosmin-Constantin. We have known them for years (some for 15 years). We live in the same neighbourhood and our children often play together. We are close to the Pârvu family, we know their needs and we try to make a shield around them. That's why we are asking for your help, as quickly and as sustained as possible. By making a recurring monthly payment of a small amount, we are preventing them from being forgotten, we are making sure that even if the dust settles on this story, the dust does not scatter a marvellous family.
