Help Loki with a needed double hip dysplasia operation
Help Loki with a needed double hip dysplasia operation
Description
My Family and I are trying to raise money to help with vet bills, after our cat Loki fell and broke his right hip.
Our Loki is a British Shorthair who will be 4 years old in June. He was re-homed to us and we were so grateful for the joy and love he brought along with him. He is a quirky little baby who loves to scare his cat uncle, Sushi, he also loves to give little unexpected nibbles to the back of his humans’ legs whenever he feels he needs more attention! He is a fierce hunter, who catches little flying bugs he finds in the garden. He is a playful and sometimes lazy cat and you can’t help but smile when he looks at you with his big eyes and walrus like whiskers! He is deeply loved by everyone who meets him and deserves the world.
Upon further investigation and two lots of X-rays it was discovered that he had broken the right hip and the left hip had been previously fractured. We had not noticed nor had he shown any sign of being in pain.
My dad had heard him meowing loudly and whenever he called out his name. However he couldn’t see him in our adjoining neighbours gardens. He resulted in going to knock on the houses opposite to see whose garden he was in. A kind neighbour checked his garden and noticed he was in his neighbours behind their shed and not able to move. It was some time before the neighbours arrived home and let my dad go and get him. He carried him home and when he put him on the floor he saw that he was struggling to walk and put pressure on his back legs. They rushed him to the emergency vets and there they prescribed him anti inflammatory which was to last until Monday when we could get him to our vet. He needed to fast as he was being put under anaesthesia for the X-ray and that is when we got the news that he had broken his right hip.
He then got referred to the specialists who have continued his treatment. They performed an operation to remove both hip joints and he is now in recovery. He is currently still at the vets and has had a hell of a week, in pain, afraid from the sounds and being away from home and his cat uncle, Sushi. Who is also really worried during this time, he has been visibly upset and has been acting out.
But as of today Loki is doing well, and the vet says that he has been using his back legs again. He hasn’t eaten due to the stress but we should hopefully be bringing him back home tomorrow.
Overall the vet bills cost £6600, thankfully we have cat insurance with a limit of £4000. But the remaining £2600 (almost €3000) has had to come straight out of our own pockets and we need some support with that payment. Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated.
