Description
The project to build a shelter for stray dogs came to life four years ago when dogs began to appear abandoned in various parts of the village where I live – Priseaca, in Olt County – sometimes accompanied by their puppies, with no food or water.I started by getting up at 5.45 am to visit several places to provide them with the food and water necessary for survival. By 8 am I had to be at the town hall office. After work, I would pop home to collect water and food for other abandoned dogs.
That is how I came to think that by building a shelter, I could try to provide them with the safety they need. I started organising free neutering campaigns. At the moment, I am in the process of organising the 10th free neutering campaign for our commune as well as for neighbouring areas.
I obtained the Building Permit based on a design drawn up by a specialist, I secured the necessary approvals, I carried out the environmental impact assessment, and I connected the land purchased by the organisation to the electricity supply. Now I am thinking of starting to build the shelter, but this requires money, materials and labour, which all come at a cost...
I should mention that for over four years I have been providing food, medication and treatment out of my own pocket for between 30 and 40 dogs, depending on how and where I find them; in practice, I no longer have a salary (though I do have the moral support of my husband).
