My grandmother is a few days away from passing away and I’m trying to raise money to give her the farewell she truly deserves. She was one of the strongest people I’ve ever known: someone who never gave up, no matter how hard life became.

When the war in Ukraine began, she was one of the first people in her town to organize fundraisers for those affected. She opened her home to refugees, helped them find safety, and shared everything she had. She never did it for recognition, she did it because she genuinely cared about others. She spent her whole life working at a community college and the church, always offering a good word and a hug if needed.

She taught me to love reading and appreciate books. She had a whole room with wall-to-wall bookshelves full of stories she loved.

Sadly, her health started to deteriorate in 2023, and she couldn’t keep helping people the way she used to. Even then she stayed kind, positive and full of love.

I want to travel from Hungary to Ukraine to be able to say goodbye properly and arrange her funeral and make sure she’s laid to rest with dignity. Unfortunately, my family can’t afford the trip or the funeral expenses right now. We recently had to use all of our emergency funds to repair our car, which my dad needs for work. I’m the only one who can travel to Ukraine, but I can’t do it alone.

Any amount would mean the world to me and my family. Your support will help me honor a woman who spent her life helping others, even when she had little herself.
