My name is Jamila and I am an Italian-Tunisian woman with muscular dystrophy.

Before I fell ill, my life was like that of most people: I went out on my own, pursued my interests and took part in lots of activities.

Since I fell ill and as my condition has worsened, I have realised just how difficult it is for someone in a wheelchair to participate in active social life.

Despite the wonderful work of voluntary organisations, which provide us with transport, we face limitations regarding evening and weekend activities due to a lack of suitable transport and

staff, as the organisations operate during office hours.

To find a solution to this problem, I came up with the idea of setting up this fundraiser to finance the purchase of a minibus with a platform, adapted for driving by people with mobility disabilities.

My dream, and that of my friends, is to be able to go out independently and return to the social life we enjoyed before our illness.

This vehicle would be managed by an association (Oftal); as it would be adapted for use by those of us with mobility impairments, it would resolve the issue of availability outside office hours.

This independence would give us the chance to feel more integrated into society.
