Social Space Kaymakkin Support Fund
What will you fundraise for today?
Description
Help us complete a renovation of the space to make it more inclusive and organized, as we approach 10 years of operation. See the end of this text for a detailed description of how the raised funds will be used and our renovation wishlist containing items you can donate!
Who We Are
Kaymakkin is a radical social space in Lefkosia that began in 2015 in response to the need for antiauthoritarian organizing.
Kaymakkin operates on principles of autonomy, antiauthoritarianism, and horizontal organization. It stands against the exploitative and oppressive social structures perpetuated by capitalism, the state, and institutional politics. Emphasizing a DIY ethos, Kaymakkin supports self-organized, self-funded ideas and projects that reject hierarchies and promote new ways of being.
Why Do We Organize as a Social Space
Kaymakkin organizes as a social space to provide a venue for autonomous and antiauthoritarian resistance and liberation. It operates within the tradition of social centers to collectively resist and subvert exploitative and oppressive social structures. By standing against the ideologies imposed by the state, capital, and institutional politics, Kaymakkin offers a platform for political action, mutual respect, inclusivity, and collective empowerment.
The space adapts over time but at its core provides a necessary alternative in which people interested in radical theory and action can meet, build relationships, and movements. It is open for collectives and individuals aligned with our overall vision to organize whatever they want, including discussions, workshops, and festivals-- and entry is always free of charge.
Why You Should Support Us
Supporting Kaymakkin is essential because it is a cooperatively funded and managed space that rejects commercial logics, fostering an accessible environment where everyone can contribute regardless of financial situation. The Kaymakkin collective supports the vitality and functioning of the space, but we do not "own" it. Kaymakkin belongs to everyone who sees themselves as a part of its vision.
It operates on collective contributions of time, skills, or money to support the space and its projects. Kaymakkin embodies a working-class ethos, promoting mutual aid and solidarity. By supporting Kaymakkin, you contribute to a vibrant and rebellious political community that strives for a more just and equitable society through grassroots, self-organized action.
We are asking for our community and friends to support us however you can: with donations of money, resources from our wishlist, or time helping out at our renovations.
Where the Money Will Go
We will do some general renovation work such as repairing damage to the walls and re-painting the entire space, as well as a minor kitchen renovation. We are also looking for the following, either by donation or to be purchased from the money raised. The list is non-exhaustive and in order of priority; we do not necessarily expect to be able to complete all items immediately but it is reflective of the space's needs for the new season.
