Description
They woke up at three in the morning to the smell of smoke. At first, there was only a faint crackling sound, then flames in the kitchen. Peter rushed to the children, while Anna called the fire brigade with trembling hands.
Within minutes, smoke filled the entire house.
They stood barefoot in the street, in their pyjamas, watching their home burn. Máté's first drawing on the fridge burned there. Lili's doll. The photo album on the living room shelf.
Anna cried.
"Everything is gone..."
Péter hugged her. The two children huddled between them, still trembling.
"Not everything," he whispered. "We're here."
The walls of the house may have collapsed. The furniture may have turned to ash.
But as they clung to each other in the cold dawn, they realised that home is not made of walls.
It consists of those who survived. ❤️
