Let me introduce myself: my name is María, I’m a teacher in a wonderful field – early years education – and the single mum of a lovely 15-year-old boy. When he was born, I started studying again whilst working in various jobs. It wasn’t easy, but I managed to work my way up through the qualifications until I finally achieved my dream of becoming an ‘early years teacher’. I know I was born for this; it’s a profession and a stage of life that fascinates me – I live for it.

Last year I was working as a teacher, but to continue I was offered a place in the cooperative. I had to turn down the offer, although I was grateful for it, as I couldn’t afford the amount of money they were asking for.

Since then, I’ve been feeling depressed because I can’t find work, I’m unemployed, and the financial situation at home isn’t easy either.

My humble aim is to raise money so that I can join the cooperative and provide a decent life for my son; I feel as though everything is coming crashing down on me. I have six months to achieve this.
