Hello, I am writing to ask for help. We are a family of four. We have two girls whom we love and care for, but fate has not been kind to us and has robbed us of the most precious thing of all – a roof over our heads – as we live in a flat where we have accumulated quite a lot of We have arrears on housing-related bills such as water and electricity, which we have lost access to because our debts exceed the maximum limit. Life in Slovakia is very difficult and finding work is impossible, as we live in an area where factories are not even interested in taking on unskilled labour. We are on benefits, receiving €230 a month, which we have to make last the whole month. And as if that weren’t enough, a tragedy occurred, which is why I am writing here: whilst we were sleeping, a candle we use at night fell over and started a major fire. Fortunately, as the father, I reacted immediately and rescued the children, carrying them to safety; our younger daughter suffered burns and had to be taken to hospital.
