Primary school "Zdravko Gložanski" from Becej, Serbia has always been among the first to introduce innovations. We are involved in two big projects for 7 years. One is "Towards high school together - supporting children from vulnerable groups in the transition to high school". Within this project we provide support to students from vulnerable groups in their overall development, and especially to continue their education through empowerment. The second project is "Quality Education for All" (EU/CoE), within which we achieved an increase in the quality of education by encouraging a democratic culture in the formal education system (removing prejudices and discriminatory approaches to vulnerable groups, reducing violence), through the application of anti-discriminatory approaches which are based on the standards and practices of the Council of Europe.

Together with the children we implemented a handful of activities: work on interculturality, gender equality, prevention of discrimination through regular classes, through classes of the head of department, combining departments, marking important dates at the level of the whole school, rap section, debate club, theater forum, TEDx-like speeches on children's rights topic, eTwinning, recognition and development of the talent of children from vulnerable groups through sports, horizontal teaching among teachers, but also joint trainings and workshops of teachers, students and parents, often children trained adults.

We became school mentors in the area of ​​transition and support for children from vulnerable groups, and also school mentors in the area of ​​competences for democratic culture.

In 2021, a team of students, after training on the prevention of discrimination and research on the presence of discrimination in our environment, founded TiPiDi (Team for the Prevention of Discrimination) together with me - the school psychologist Margarita Borcsok and we joined the Design for Change 2022 challenge. In the "Feel" phase we chose precisely discrimination as a topic and many activities on the prevention of discrimination were implemented: peer support training/workshops, confidence boxes, at the suggestion of the students the cross-curricular topic in the 8th grade was discrimination, an inter-school meeting with a debate on helping students from sensitive groups who are often exposed to discrimination, marked important dates with the participation of the whole school, received training on mediation, participated in workshops on gender equality, peer support groups in learning were established for students from sensitive groups, the rap section created a song about prevention discrimination, they organized the Living Library...

The school's project "We are All Equal Under the Sun" represented Serbia at the Be the Change global conference in Malaysia in 2022, where students Jana Peslac and Dusan Gajinov attended the Summit with me. The students of the school also led the DFC celebration in Belgrade with the presence of 6 countries in English, and Dusan was a member of the Student Council Global throughout 2023 (he remained a mentor in 2024). We were also a part of the Be the Change 2023 celebration in India too and participated in the Journey of Change in December 2023.

Of all the activities and volunteerism of the students, the forum theater, the Living Library and the Paralympic Day stand out in particular. All these activities are aimed at accepting diversity, at preventing violence and discrimination, at building resilience.

The Forum Theater operates in Serbian and Hungarian, and they have become young ambassadors of peace. They will also become young initiators of change through peer training. What makes the school special is this educated, dedicated and responsible team of enthusiastic students who, with the highest levels of participation, make changes in their environment together with me.

We are one of the few schools that plan and consistently work continuously on these educational topics and have a developed work model that can serve other institutions in the environment through study visits and beyond how to create a more beautiful world together with children with developed cooperation with state institutions and the civil sector both locally, nationally and beyond.

The opportunity to attend the annual summit in Dubai in October this year would mean realy a lot to us, because we could represent our team, school, Becej and Serbia in the world, but also could connect with children and youngsters from 70 countries who are the part of the Design for Change movement (the founder is Kiran Bir Sethi from India), get new ideas from the children's project around the world and we could spread the new knowledge in Serbia after that.
