Foyer Lucie is a general residential care service (SRG) located in Verviers. We care for 30 children and young people, aged between 3 and 18, who have been removed from their home environment; they are divided into two units of 15 young people each: Les Racines and Les Ailes.

Children and teenagers placed in SRGs are there on the basis of a referral from the SAJ or SPJ for a wide variety of reasons, but very often due to dangerous situations within their families.

The carers do their utmost, day in, day out, to welcome, support and look after the children entrusted to them. For some, the SRG is their home, their family, their anchor. Although the aim for some is to be able to return to their family environment, for many, the placement will continue until they turn 18; they will then be prepared for ‘independence’ by their carers so that they can manage on their own once they reach the age of majority.

Our groups have just taken part in a competition to win tickets for a day trip to DISNEYLAND PARIS! What a wonderful opportunity for these children to be able to dream too, to visit Mickey’s World, to meet their favourite cartoon characters, and to meet the princesses whose dresses the little girls collect and wear as fancy dress on a regular basis!

So, full of motivation and enthusiasm, our young and older children created a masterpiece in the hope of being among the lucky winners... our group of teenagers (Les Ailes) were very lucky to win tickets! It’s brilliant for them, but… our little ones have every reason to be disappointed to know that their older peers are going and they aren’t… even if that’s the nature of a competition.

We therefore hope to be able to offer this opportunity to our group of younger children (aged 5 to 12) as well. We want to see the stars in their eyes, to experience a magical, enchanting day and, for just one day, to help them forget their worries, which already weigh so heavily on their little shoulders. To be able to tell their school friends that they too do wonderful things, even though they live in a care home... and thus create positive, unforgettable memories for them!
