We are collecting for a New Home for Ania and Boris - their famous "Sloth" - home on wheels was destroyed in an accident. - Friends.
Every driver's dream nightmare - a failure of the brakes in the car on a mountain road became a brutal reality on the evening of August 7 for Anna and her dog Boris. The good news is that both are alive, only slightly battered.... The bad news is that their home on wheels, a mobile photography studio, a magical "Sloth" - a vintage Hymer camper, has suffered damage that will likely be beyond repair.
***
Remember those postcards from sunny Crete you see every day with your morning coffee when you open Facebook? If you've been following Anna Maria Biniecka's social media, her account of her trip through the Balkans to Greece, you certainly know what she's talking about.
Anna has been sharing photos, videos, snapshots of her life for weeks, and most of all, so completely selflessly, she takes us there, to those maddening places, away from the tourist hustle and bustle.
If, on the other hand, you are hearing about Anna Maria for the first time, I already introduce - a sensational photographer with not only an eye sensitive to human experiences and experiences, but also a heart, as she has in her portfolio important and courageous activist and volunteer work: on the Belarusian border, in a refugee camp, in organizations defending animal rights. She currently lives on the road, aboard the camper van Sloth, with her dog Boris.
This time it is Anna Maria who needs help.
Unfortunately, on the night of August 6-7 she had an accident - during a descent down one of the steep and winding Cretan roads, the brakes of the Lazybones did not hold, the camper landed on its side with serious damage.
Gone was the panoramic windshield (the cost of a new one alone is over 2000 Euro ), the shaft, the shaft support, the fuel tank and many others that are not yet known. Fortunately, both Anna and Boris are safe and sound! However, the accident happened in a hard-to-reach place, and at this point it is not known whether the camper will be able to get out of there at all, and if so, whether repairing it to a condition that guarantees safe use is possible.
Insurance will cover repairs to the tune of €1,500, but at this point contact with the insurer is difficult and full of question marks, and the quality of the assistance is so poor that there are many indications that repairs will have to be covered out of pocket.
Unless the bleakest scenario comes true, in which Anna Maria's only option for recovering her House on Wheels will be to buy a new camper.
The accident happened just after more than a week's renovation (refreshing the interior, building a new electrical system) with the selfless, great help of friends, who harried like oxen in the heat, and on top of that, moments before the arrival of the first holiday guests, to whom Anna Maria was supposed to provide a tour of Crete along paths that were not obvious, discovered by herself. The renovation itself, a huge part of which had just gone to waste, cost about 1500 Euro.
If you've seen coverage of this trip at least once, if you've smiled at least once, had a dream, your mood improved after seeing another batch of photos, then you know that it's worth supporting Anna Maria and Boris in their brave journey through the world together.
Thank you in advance for any help,
Friends of Anna and Borys
