Description

I’m Sandra, Alan’s mum. Alan is my 8-year-old son. To cut a long story short, we were born and grew up healthy until Alan turned 6, which he celebrated in the intensive care unit :( After falling ill with what seemed like a common viral infection, Alan had a high temperature until, one morning, he was barely able to stand when he woke up. His coordination was impaired. We went to hospital, but they found nothing new. A viral infection, perhaps lingering; they gave him an IV drip. When he woke up in the morning, he suffered a terrible epileptic seizure; a few hours later, another one, and Alan was already in the intensive care unit. A few days later, he was transferred to Kaunas Clinics, where he was intubated and placed in a medically induced coma, as the seizures wouldn’t stop, occurring every 5–10 minutes. After a long struggle and nearly two months spent in intensive care, we’ve been trying to get back on our feet for the past two years.

At present, the seizures are better controlled. But Alan has lost almost everything – his speech, his awareness, and control of his body. That is why intensive rehabilitation is needed, both in Lithuania and abroad. We have now set up the Alan Agatanov Support Fund. We cover the costs of rehabilitation at home and abroad. The annual cost of rehabilitation amounts to around 24,000 euros. This financial burden is too heavy for us to bear alone, so we are asking anyone who is able and willing to contribute.
