Hello,
I’d rather not be writing these words, but I don’t want to leave any stone unturned.
I am a young adult who endures daily abuse, threats and violence – both physical and psychological – at the hands of a mother who, to show her affection, stubs out her cigarette on my leg.
I grew up in a children’s home, only to be thrown out into the world as soon as I came of age: as a child, I experienced everything that children should never have to know, but I imagined what my future might be like and always held onto the hope that I could escape all this and be happy.
I’m working morning and night to get the means to go far away, have a place to call home, and get back to my studies.
But that’s not enough.
Willpower and personal commitment aren’t enough: whilst it’s true that ‘money doesn’t buy happiness’, in some ways, it helps to build it.
That is why I am launching a fundraising campaign, and I continue to hope.
