A young medical student, Bruno, joins his girlfriend Rozalīna on a weekend trip to her family’s old manor. The cult’s philosophies echo Nietzschean ideals, with a focus on power, control, and fate. As the truth about Bruno’s father unravels, he’s forced to question his relationship with Rozalīna and whether his love for her can survive the betrayal.

The series explores themes of love, manipulation, identity, and fate, all against a backdrop of psychological suspense. The pilot sets the stage for a larger, mind-bending mystery, with Bruno caught between unraveling his family’s history and escaping the cult’s grip before it’s too late.

“Palimpsest” is designed as a psychological thriller with elements of mystery, suspense, and deeply human conflicts. The series leans into atmospheric tension — a slow, creeping dread that builds with every scene. The visual style will make use of stark contrasts, from the idyllic university settings to the oppressive, dark halls of the manor’s basement, to convey the shift from Bruno’s ordinary life to the unraveling nightmare he finds himself trapped in.

Inspired by films like Midsommar and Mother! by Darren Aronofsky, the series will pull the audience in with a false sense of security, only to rip it away as the reality around Bruno becomes more distorted and dangerous. Each scene adds layers of unease, focusing on character-driven moments that reveal psychological fractures. The manor itself is not just a setting, but a living entity in the series, mirroring the characters’ crumbling emotional states.

This series taps into a growing audience demand for intense, cerebral thrillers with complex characters and psychological depth. “Palimpsest” is not just a story about cults or secrets — it’s about how far a person is willing to go to understand themselves, even if it means losing everything in the process. The short lenght narrative film “Palimpsest” is a psychological drama that gives an insight into a secret underground corporation that is luring in young teenagers by false information in-between close friendships.

The director’s goal is to create rising tension throughout the narrative, where subtle events along the way hint that the journey which the young teenager characters are embarking will turn out horrifying. This leads the director of photography to research such films as “Get out” (Jordan Peele, 2017), “On the line” (Romuald Boulanger, 2022) and “Mother” (Darren Aronofsky, 2017) to find out how the filmmakers used rising tension and horror genre elements to create a certain unease in casual situations.

The use of wide angle lenses and big closeups distort the human face which makes for an uneasy atmosphere.

Variating camera angles creates a visual dissonance between characters that have a lower and higher hierarchy in the narrative.

The colour of RED which is associated with blood is noticeable in the clothing of the characters that belong to secret society and is a foreshadow of what happens in the underground lobotomy bunkers, however Bruno and his innocent friend Alberts wears no red whatsoever and this is one of the things that marks them as outsiders.

Throughout the movie cult-like symbols are emphasised with detail closeups, which creates a riddle for the viewer to untangle as all the signs lead to what Bruno is essentially searching for.

Medicīnas students Bruno kopā ar dzīvesbiedri Rozalīnu dodas uz senu muižu. Ceļojums sākas kā mierīga atpūta, bet ātri pārvēršas psiholoģiskā murgā, kad Bruno atklāj noslēpumus par savas ģimenes pagātni, mistisku kultu un Rozalīnas plāniem, lai manipulētu ar viņa likteni.

Sinopse:

"Palimpsests" stāsta par jaunu medicīnas studentu Bruno, kurš, kā viņš uzskata, dodas atpūtas braucienā ar savu draudzeni Rozalīnu un draugu Albertu uz Rozalīnas ģimenes attālo muižu. Taču drīz pēc ierašanās ceļojums ieņem tumšu pavērsienu. Bruno atrod fotogrāfiju, kas saista viņa mistiski pazudušo tēvu ar muižas šausminošo pagātni. Kad spriedze pieaug un Bruno izdzird Alberta kliedzienu, viņš dodas atrast kaut ko šausminošu muižas pagraba telpās.

Jo lielāka aug Bruno interese, jo vairāk viņš saprot, ka Rozalīna ne tikai slēpj ģimenes noslēpumus, bet viņa ir daļa no daudz lielāka un ļaunāka plāna, ko kontrolē noslēpumains kults, kas cieši saistīts ar abu dzīvēm. Kults balstās uz idejām, kuras pamatā ir Nīčes filosofija, un tā galvenie uzskati ietver varas, prāta kontroles un likteņa konceptus. Kad atklājas patiesība par Bruno tēvu, viņam ir jāizvēlas, vai turpināt attiecības ar Rozalīnu, zinot, ka viņa ir iesaistīta viņa nodevībā vai izprast viņas patieso motivāciju.
