My name is Ovidiu, and I live in the village of Băgaciu, in Mureș County, Romania. In 2019, my life changed unexpectedly. While preparing to leave for Germany with my wife for a three-month job, my father passed away, leaving my 92-year-old grandfather without anyone to care for him. I searched within a 100 km radius for a place where he could stay and be safe, but finding a spot in a retirement home was nearly impossible. The pain and helplessness of that moment stayed with me.

That’s when I made a promise to myself: when I return home, I will build a retirement home for the elderly, in memory of my grandfather – a place where seniors would feel safe, loved, and respected. I came back to Romania in 2023 and started building. I obtained all the necessary permits, completed the sewage system and foundation, and began constructing the wooden structure. My dream is coming to life.

The retirement home will have 4 double rooms (8 residents), 4 bathrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, a technical room, and a pantry with cold storage. Everything is being built in my backyard, in a peaceful and green environment. I’m also working on a large gazebo area with a grill, wood-fired oven, smokehouse, sauna, and outdoor leisure space, where the elderly can enjoy nature, fresh air, and social moments.

I am a professional cook, and my wife is a medical assistant. Together, we will provide the residents with the best care and home-cooked meals, using fresh ingredients from our own garden. Here, growing old will not mean isolation — but being part of a warm and caring family.

In order to finish this project, I need your support. The construction is underway, but my personal funds have been exhausted. To complete everything — from building to furnishing — I estimate I will need around €2,500 per month until completion.
