Description
Cuba has a strong sporting tradition. From boxing to athletics, via baseball, the Caribbean Games and international events, it has always been a nation that ‘holds its own’ on the global sporting stage. However, today the landscape presents very serious challenges that are affecting the development of new athletes, competitive performance and the sustainability of grassroots sports programmes. Cuban basketball, like many other sports, is no exception.
This campaign we are launching aims to fund Cuban sports facilities, so that children and young people in Cuba can have a space for recreation and stay away from the problems of the streets. We have now been working on this project for six months and have managed to restore two facilities, where children are already laughing and sharing a common passion. On the blog https://www.baloncestonaranja.es/, you can follow the work that has begun and is already bearing fruit. Cuban children need us, and any help is vital. Today, Cuba is facing a dengue fever pandemic, along with other illnesses linked to a lack of resources, which has the whole country on tenterhooks. Added to this is the fact that they only have electricity for two hours a day due to the economic difficulties the country is facing. Supporting these children at this time is everyone’s duty.
