Enzo, the hero

Enzo Horváth is not just a name, but his whole life is special. Yes, the three-year-old Roma boy living in Hungary was named after the legendary Enzo Ferrari, and nomen est omen, Enzo's life, while quite different, was as extraordinary and exceptional as that of the birth father of the world-famous car brand. Enzo Horváth is also a racer, and a fierce one at that. This little racer and his support team, his family, his friends, his Christian congregation, are on a path that is difficult for a mere mortal to comprehend and follow.

Hearing Enzo's life story and his current situation without seeing the face of this little boy and his family can seem like a nightmare. Therefore, we ask you first of all to look at the photos, to see the faces, because as difficult as the fate that Enzo and his family are facing, this story is not about darkness, hopelessness, but about struggle, hope, faith and love, without which Enzo would certainly have been thrown off the race track, but armed with this, he is still in the race, still fighting. That's where we need you now!

The cracked reed will not break

Enzo was six months old when he was diagnosed with a tumour called Yolk Sac Tumour, commonly known as testicular cancer, during a check-up after a febrile attack. Enzo has been fighting for his life for the last 2.5 years, more than 80% of his life, as he has followed the path set out by the traditional treatment protocol. He has undergone six surgeries, two transplants, twenty-eight radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but the tumour has returned again and again and metastasised. Most doctors have given up on Enzo's life, but the family has learned of a revolutionary new treatment that offers a real chance, orders of magnitude greater than before, to get Enzo back in the race and win his life back. As the family say, Enzo has received his healing from God, now he "just" needs to accept it from the Lord.

The immunotherapy

Little Enzo has been admitted to a clinical programme in Germany where he is being treated with what is called "dendritic cell therapy". The dendritic cell therapy, which is still less known in Hungary, is being used more and more frequently in many research and therapeutic institutions around the world. More than 7000 scientific articles have been published on the subject and this form of treatment has already been approved in the USA, among other countries. Unlike other therapies, such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy, which use foreign substances or damaging radiation to fight cancer, this treatment uses dendritic cells to engage the body's own immune system to fight cancer.

What is the plan?

The treatment procedure itself seems like child's play for Enzo, as "only" a blood sample is needed at the clinic in Germany to produce the vaccine that will be injected into the little racer's body. As this procedure is not available in Hungary and is not supported by NEAK, the family, which has already sold many of its assets to cover the cost of the treatment, has now started a fundraising campaign.

The costs

The first immunotherapy treatment costs €18,000, the second €14,000, plus ongoing travel and accommodation costs, so a total of €40,000 is being raised for Enzo. This is a huge sum for the family, but it is encouraging that several similar successful fundraising and treatment campaigns have been carried out in the past, for example with the cooperation of this site. Of course, as is usual in this genre, time is of the essence, as the immunotherapy treatment should prevent another massive tumour from developing in Enzo. Every minute counts, so we will not take up any more of your time.
