Andrei is 8 years old and hasn’t said ‘Mum’ yet...

I am writing these words as a parent, in the hope that they will touch the hearts of other parents who understand what it means to fight for your child.

Our little boy, Andrei Nicolas, was a much-wanted child. I remember his first words and first smiles perfectly... and then, one day, everything changed.

At the age of 2, Andrei began to withdraw from our world.

He stopped speaking.

He stopped pointing.

He no longer responded to his name.

He stopped smiling.

There were screams at noises, tantrums, frustration and moments when he would hit himself.

For a parent, it is a feeling impossible to describe.

After many investigations, the diagnosis came as a shock to our lives:

autism, severe speech delay and ADHD.

But we never gave up for a moment.

Over the last 5 years, we have done everything in our power for Andrei:

• ABA therapy

• sensory therapy

• Tomatis

• neurofeedback

• speech therapy.

These therapies have become part of our daily routine and his only chance of progress.

They cost around €2,500 a month.

We went even further, in the hope of greater progress:

• 3 autologous stem cell transplants in Austria – €50,000

• 2 stem cell transplants from donors in Panama – €55,000

These have been years of sacrifice, loans and hope.

And yes... Andrei has made progress.

But he still doesn’t speak.

He still can’t say “mum” or “dad”.

Now we have a new chance.

Andrei has been accepted for an experimental treatment in Monterrey, Mexico, using the Cytotron device, a 28-day programme that offers hope to children with autism.

To get there, we need €55,000, which covers the treatment, transport and accommodation.

As parents, we sometimes reach a point where we can no longer do everything on our own.

That is why we are appealing to you.

If you are a parent, you know you would do absolutely anything for your child.

Any donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to the chance that one day Andrei might say his first word.

Or perhaps to look us in the eye and simply say:

“Mum.”
