Description
Hello, my name is Tomáš Coufal and I am 48 years old. I am setting up a fundraising campaign because I need a better, BIONIC prosthesis.
My left lower leg, below the knee, was amputated following a thrombosis in May 2022. In the same year, after the scar had healed and I had completed my rehabilitation, I was given a basic prosthesis, which was paid for by my insurance company. However, after a year and a half of walking with the prosthesis using crutches, the scar ruptured in July 2024. This was because the prosthesis didn’t fit me properly, and even after adjustments, the situation didn’t improve. The scar took almost a year to heal; I was unable to walk and was confined to a wheelchair. The stump has now healed, and six months ago I was fitted with the same prosthesis again, but I cannot walk well in it and must once more use crutches when walking. The doctors and the prosthetist have told me that I would need a bionic prosthesis to walk better, even without crutches. But the insurance company won’t cover a bionic prosthesis, and I can’t afford one. A bionic prosthesis costs between 750,000 and 1 million crowns.
Having a bionic prosthesis is very important to me, both from a health perspective (for example, the stump would stop hurting so much when walking, and my back would feel better too) and in terms of my quality of life;I would like to be able to move around normally again, walk without crutches, and return to my hobby – welding.
I would use the money raised to fund the production and payment for a bionic prosthesis, which is made to order and custom-fitted, as well as for various orthopaedic aids for everyday life.Examples include grab rails for the bathroom, a folding orthopaedic shower chair, etc.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the kind people who are helping me get back to normal life.❤️
