my name is Tomek, and I am 24-years old. In mid-July I am going on a 2-week volunteering trip to Albania organized by nuns from the Netherlands from the Voluntarios del Verbo association. The volunteering will consist of daily service at a hospice for lonely and sick women, mainly Christians who do not have their own family. Their entire lives depend on the work of the sisters and volunteers, as well as the voluntary financial support of donors.

Albania, despite the fact that the communist era is long behind it, is still a relatively poor country on a European scale. According to the data from 2022, approximately 22% of the country's population lives below poverty line. It is a country with a dominant Muslim majority, which is why the above-mentioned beneficiaries, due to their faith, often find themselves in complicated family, religious and social situations. Albania is also a home country of Mother Teresa who inspires generations of volunteers to perform the works of mercy including this one.

This will be the first event of this type in my life, which is why I would like to provide real support to this project. In addition, the entire accommodation and stay of the 20 people, who volunteered alongside me, will be financed from the hospice's funds. On behalf of the sisters, as well as other volunteers, I will be grateful for every euro transferred, which we will donate to the hospice run by the organization of Voluntarios del verbo.

Mam na imię Tomek (24l.). W połowie lipca wybieram się na 2-tygodniowy wolontariat do Albanii organizowany przez siostry zakonne z Holandii ze stowarzyszenia Voluntarios del verbo. Wolontariat będzie polegał na codziennej posłudze przy hospicjum dla samotnych i chorych kobiet, chrześcijanek, które nie posiadają własnej rodziny. Ich całe życie zależy od pracy sióstr i wolontariuszy, a także dobrowolnym wsparciu finansowym darczynców.

Albania, mimo że czasy komunistyczne ma już dawno za sobą, pozostaje nadal stosunkowo biednym krajem w skali europejskiej. Według ostatnich danych (2022) około 22% populacji kraju żyje poniżej granicy ubóstwa. Jest to kraj z dominującą większością muzułmańską, dlatego wyżej wspomniani podopieczni, ze względu na swoje wyznanie, często odnajdują się w zawiłych sytuacjach rodzinnych, religijnych i społecznych. Stąd również pochodziła Matka Teresa z Kalkuty, której życie i posługa inspiruje kolejne pokolenia wolontariuszy do czyniena uczynków miłosierdzia wliczając w to tę akcję.

Będzie to pierwsze tego typu wydarzenie w moim życiu dlatego zależy mi na realnym wsparciu z mojej strony. Dodatkowo całe zakwaterowanie i pobyt 20 osób które zgłosiły się do wolontariatu, będzie finansowany z kasy hospicjum. W imieniu sióstr, a także innych wolontariuszy, będę wdzięczny za każdą przelaną złotówkę, którą przekażemy na rzecz hospicjum prowadzoną przez organizację Voluntarios del verbo.
