Description
"You need a whole village to raise a child." - African proverb
In recent years, living conditions for many children have changed. The time they spend playing outside is decreasing, while media consumption is increasing. Independent activity and experiences are going on the 'back-bench'.
Children's world is changing, their direct contact with nature and animals is becoming less and less.
"Does a cow always give milk?", "What do pigs eat?", "Why does manure smell so bad?", most schoolchildren today have problems with such questions. The reasons for ignorance are many: contact between agriculture and the population, which used to be a matter of course, no longer exists. City children do not usually have a direct connection with the countryside and agriculture.
It is very important for the future to be able to teach young children to have information about the environment. To be able to process it so that they have sustainable habits and create awareness and respect for the environment and its conservation.
In many cases, in many environmental education activities, adults end up more surprised than children.
School farms are a type of environmental education that favours teaching and making children aware of caring for the environment. Children born and brought up in cities are not aware of many aspects of nature, even adults growing up in urban environments are not aware of many aspects of nature that can help them conserve it. In this case we refer to the expression "you must know to conserve". When a person is aware of the importance of a particular natural resource, space, animal, etc., there is an intrinsic need to conserve it in order to continue to maintain the service it provides.
Passing on knowledge about the environment is not solved by visiting the countryside. In order to be able to introduce values and information to children, it is necessary for them to have their own experiences and personal contact with the countryside.
Children are surprised and amazed by all that is new and learn from each experience. The school farm offers them a unique opportunity to discover the natural environment.
