Description
My life completely changed in December 2024, when I was admitted to hospital with acute pancreatitis. The doctors managed to bring it under control and the following month I was already feeling healthy, energised, happy. I had planned, like most of us at the beginning of the year, to travel, to meet my mum living abroad, to live a normal and peaceful life. Reality, however, turned out to be different....
In February 2025, I ended up in hospital with mechanical jaundice, and on Valentine's Day I received the dreaded diagnosis. To this day, the doctor's words resound in my ears - malignant tumour of the pancreas, inoperable. I could feel the ground slipping away from under my feet.
At first, I only underwent a procedure to insert a bile duct prosthesis to get rid of the jaundice. I then started treatment at a hospital in Warsaw. After 7 sessions of chemotherapy, a CT scan was performed. It turned out that the disease had progressed despite the treatment. The doctor recommended changing the chemotherapy to a one-day palliative with the administration of other agents. I am after the first such session.
The treatment is done through the National Health Service, but I do some of the consultations privately. I have also decided to seek help abroad. I am in contact with clinics in Israel and Germany - one of them suggests doing a genetic test as soon as possible to try targeted therapy based on the result of this test. In Poland, it is not possible to perform such a broad gene panel. Doctors rely only on palliative treatment. My mental condition is getting worse and worse, and it only gets worse with every piece of bad news. I often despair, but also pray for health. I try to fight this condition, find courage, overcome fear and have a positive attitude to win against the disease. Therefore, I try to be physically active and lead a normal life, knowing that the difficult moments during and after chemotherapy will pass and I will be able to continue fighting the disease. However, my fight is hard and exhausting. I am fortunate to have the support of my mum, husband and a few close friends in everything. Unfortunately, due to the huge costs that await me in further treatment, I also need your help. Your support will give me the chance to fight using targeted therapy. This will allow me to still live, enjoy meetings and time with my mum, who only has me....
Any support - donating or sharing a collection, will be another step giving me hope for a better tomorrow in health. I ask you very much, please give me this chance! You are my only hope....
Naomi
