The thing is, this woman, who has become very dear to me – she’s 75 years old – has spent half her life looking after her family, caring for her seriously ill mother right up until her death. Until last November, she also looked after her seriously ill sister; she gave her all for both of them. She did everything for her family and never thought of herself.

The sad thing is that all her other siblings, and even the children of her now-deceased sister, weren’t even there for her mother.

The worst thing is that her sister’s own children didn’t even have the decency to help pay for the funeral, just as her siblings didn’t have the decency to contribute to their mother’s funeral. I affectionately call this woman my surrogate mum because I never had a mum like that myself. For 20 years, she never thought of herself and was, and still is, always there for everyone, helping people in every situation who don’t really appreciate what this woman does.

She has got herself into debt in order to pay for the funerals, all because of her help and kindness. Furthermore, there are relatives who have run up debts whilst she herself was in hospital for four weeks following a stroke.

She has been so exploited and betrayed by her own family and now finds herself in this situation through no fault of her own, so she urgently needs help.
