Description
This fundraiser is for people in Nepal who have been heavily affected by the devastating floods that hit the country on 26 August 2026.
This fundraiser is very personal to me and close to my heart.
I conducted my PhD field research in 2018 on multi-hazards in the flood-affected regions of Rasuwa and Nuwakot, which had already been heavily affected by the 2015 earthquake. Some of the villages where I spent time with local communities have been completely washed away.
In Rasuwa and Nuwakot, people have lost family members and friends, farmland and homes, and many communities are still largely cut off from electricity and road access. The monsoon season is ongoing, the roads are extremely muddy, and many bridges have been washed away. This makes it very difficult to get relief materials and even basic food supplies to affected communities.
Around 400 people are currently staying in a temporary shelter in Boudhanath, including women with small children who have lost their husbands or other family members, as well as most of their belongings.
Local friends and peers who survived have lost loved ones, their livelihoods, their homes, or everything they had. It is very hard to grasp and come to terms with this, and I feel deeply saddened by what has happened.
This photo was taken during my field research in 2018 and it shows the Trishuli River in the valley in Rasuwa back then.
How will the funds be used?
I will do my best to make sure that the money reaches those who need it most by transferring the funds raised directly to local friends and trusted people on the ground in Nepal, who can provide support to affected people and families.
For transparency, I will keep track of the donations and share updates with you as best as I can about the people receiving support, while respecting their privacy and dignity.
Thank you so much for your generosity, trust and support.
With deep gratitude,
Kerstin
