Relu is just 11 months old, and has been fighting for his life for weeks.

It all began with severe anaemia, with no clear cause. He was rushed to hospital and needed an immediate blood transfusion. Test after test followed, and eventually the diagnosis was devastating: a parasitic infection in his blood that is destroying his red blood cells.

Since then, the battle has continued non-stop.

Relu has already undergone seven blood transfusions, and the doctors say it is very likely he will need another one. Although he has been cleared of the blood parasites with antibiotics, his immune system has been thrown into disarray and is attacking his own blood.

We have tried intravenous treatments, antibiotics, tablets, syrups and all the options recommended so far, but, unfortunately, his body is not responding as we had hoped. We are now on steroids and immunosuppressants, along with erythropoietin injections to stimulate his bone marrow to produce more red blood cells.

The costs have already exceeded 14,000 lei and continue to rise every day, with hospital admissions, monitoring, tests, treatments and transfusions. Beyond the financial aspect, the hardest thing is that we’ve reached a point where we no longer know what else we could try to save his life.

We don’t want to give up on him as long as there’s still a chance.
